The goal of the Safe, Sustainable and Clean Energy challenge is to facilitate the transition from the current energetic system towards a safe, sustainable and competitive one that can reduce to a large extent the dependence on fossil fuels and therefore minimizes the impact on the climate change. The primary lines of this challenge will have to be aligned with the Strategic Plan for Energetic Technologies (SET Plan), as well as with the corresponding initiatives in which Spain is involved. Materials R&D&I (for structural applications as well as functional ones) is one of the main engines for the commercial development of new energy related technologies. In this sense, Spain has very important actors in the international energetic scenario, from the generation of knowledge and technology point of view as well as from market deployment and commercialization.
